Welcome to Dr Morgan Campbell

Date

The Inclusive Public Space project extends a warm welcome to Dr Morgan Campbell, who recently joined our team:

I’m thrilled to join the IPS and welcome my role in using film to raise awareness and identify accessibility issues of our often not so public public spaces. I have an academic and professional background in urban planning and public policy with a focus on participatory methods to achieve greater mobility justice and long term sustainability. My doctoral research started with the knowledge of overt patriarchal structures and norms that effect when, where, and why women in urban India travel in public and asked: What bodies are ‘allowed’ mobility in India’s urbanizing landscape. My interest was in how and why labour demands facilitate mobility of some women’s bodies and immobility of others; how transport policies, infrastructures, and modes reproduce intersecting cultural norms of gender, class, and caste. Additionally, I located acts of agency, transgression, and/or camaraderie in daily movement and interaction. I love the diversity of our IPS research team, case cities, research partners and participants! The project is exciting on many levels but particularly the way in which our research process is designed to work with and reach a very diverse audience. Everyone stands to benefit from more inclusive public space and streets.
